Once again we would like to thank all who supported our Carol Singing this Christmas – the small but plucky group of singers who turned out even on the first two very wet nights and all who supported us financially. And thank you to Rosie and Sean for inviting us to sing in the Bell and Jorrocks and encouraging the customers to join in. Incidentally they still have a Fegans collecting box on the bar counter if you wish to make a donation.
In the end we raised £1,541.92, which has been shared equally between Fegans and The Weald Hub. Both of these support local children and families in difficult circumstances. The Weald Hub, which was set up last summer, focuses on support for teenagers and their families affected by mental health problems, an area of increasing concern throughout the country. As this is a new venture they were particularly grateful for our support and if you receive their newsletter you will see a picture of us in action in their next issue. We also hope to have speakers from Fegans and/or The Weald Hub at some point this year.
I do not know how many years people have been carol-singing round our village. It certainly goes back to just after the last war and probably much longer than that. Very few villages maintain this tradition nowadays, but let’s make sure we continue ours. Come and join us next year!
