Choir and church music
The Choir of St Mary’s has a core number of 8 but is often augmented for special occasions and services. We are always looking for new members and no audition is necessary – just a love of singing! The choir supports the congregation on 3 Sundays in the month (unless the month has 5 Sundays and then it is 4).
Singing in a choir can be a very uplifting experience – if you would like to try for yourself – please contact Morwenna, see above.
There is no obligation to commit to every Sunday – feel free to join us for weddings or the Christmas Carol Service or the annual carol singing around the village.
We have many talented musicians in the village and can generally call upon them for high days and holidays to swell out the choir, or to play instruments.
We have a good two manual organ built at the turn of the last century but it needs constant attention like most instruments of this period. The organ is used at all services except the All Age Worship.
Our other musicians include: John and Marian Dutton who play the flute and ‘cello respectively and provide music before some of the services. Angela Olney plays the clavinova for All Age Worship.
There are lots of children and young families in the village and we are trying to build up a junior choir. This is a fledgling project and needs support but families are busy and it is hard to co-ordinate time and place.
Music is a vital part of the life of our Church but needs more volunteers.
